Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) and Equine Assisted Learning(EAL) uses herd dynamics to partner in group or individual sessions giving opportunities to interact with horses and create metaphors for life issues or trauma. Both are incorporated in the EAGALA Model used at the Discovery Stable Facility. Non-verbal communication, creative thinking and problem-solving are examples of the tools utilized and developed by EAP/L.
Discovery Stable practices a hands-on ground based method that leans heavily on the concept that people learn best by experience and connection. Each session includes the client, horse, equine specialist and mental-health professional in the arena together. Horses are masters at reading body language and respond to nonverbal cues clients send. The horses become very real symbols of relationships and allow clients the opportunity to work through how to change aspects of their lives in a solution oriented , in-the-moment and emotionally safe method.
